i think im an instinctive player; for example i couldn't sit down and explain to someone what is a good move or why, to me i just see and know a good move, i aim to get into better positions and focus on mate.

What type of players U R

As a matter of fact, nearly ALL the devoted chess players, have an Obsessive-Paranoid personality, deep in their hearts, they feel  that they are worthy to be Grandmasters, you can notice this on the notes written about their games....

i couldnt agree more with zanboryaa's statement it a true fact anyone who doesnt isnt telling the truth. plus i think anyone would do the same thing or have done in offering a draw when you feel your opponent is in a better position. i dont deny i offer draws but if they dont accept it then get on with it. you never know they might accept later on down the line.

paranoia

It's about time someone like zanboryaa and hotdog wrote something wholy objective and insightful as they have. Yes, I too feel worthy of being a grandmaster. In fact, in my heart, I already am one. Soon everyone else will recognise this fact. I am, however, having some trouble reconcilling why I languish around the 1400s.

As I said it before, I'm not a good player. i just want to make friends while playing. I just move my piece without thinking a lot.

Positive attitude vs. humility

Both have a place in our attitude and approach to playing chess.  IMHO, humility is far more useful.  We are in most danger when we overestimate our own strength, and give less than appropriate respect to our opponent's plans.

On every turn, our best policy is to first ask, what threats are contained in the move just made?

Watching or studying GM games may be helpful, with the proper amount of concentration and examination.  Often, even when they are annotated, a lot is missing, even when the annotation is by the winning GM.  Like history, the winning side often tells the story, but it is often not the whole story.  Sometimes even with the super GMs a single blunder changes the result.

I personally think that average players benefit more by studying games of their peers, and understanding how to take advantage of common mistakes which appear often in class player's games.  You will learn to avoid them, and take advantage when they appear on the opposite side of the board.

Half positional, Half Tactical

Positional play creates tactical opportunity.
