Fair play and Ratings adjustments
Players,
Fair Play:
Playing chess over the internet provides chess players the opportunity to play against chess players from all over the world. This is a fantastic way to meet and play against people that you would not ordinarily get the chance to play. The down side of this remote play is that you as the player are relying on the other playerâââ‰â¢s integrity. It is extremely difficult to know if the person you are playing is getting assistance from another person, a book or even chess software. There are a few guidelines that I would like you to follow when using Chess On The Web.
* If you are receiving coaching or are using books to help your play, add a note to your player profile. We would all like to improve our game play, so most players would not object to somebody doing this.
* Please do not use chess software to decide your next move. By all means use software to analyse your games after the event, but using it to dictate your moves is defeating the object of person v person play.
* The site admin does not object to you having multiple player ids. Each player id would need a unique email address and how you manage that is up to you. What is not acceptable is players playing against them self to raise their rating. Please be wary of this when the tournaments start.
I have no intention of actively policing these guidelines. I like to believe that the majority of players on the site already follow them. If you do feel that a player is stretching the boundaries of these guidelines please contact me via the message system or email admin@chessontheweb.com, or simply choose to ignore them. Please do not post accusatory messages on the forums. That would merely result in the use of the moderator delete button!
Ratings:
Sadly it has come to our attention that a particular player has been boosting his rating in a fashion that is unacceptable to the site management. Please do not speculate who the player is and donâââ‰â¢t ask me for additional information. To rectify the situation certain games will be flagged as non-rated (a bit of functionality from the future) and all ratings will be re-calculated. I will be testing this in the development area first and I will be in touch with any player that is adversely affected. Initial investigation shows very minimal impact. Expect this to be completed over the next few days.
If you have any concerns or comments please feel free to contact me.
Regards
