A vacation flag feature is in the pipeline. I can't promise at this stage that it will be ready by Christmas but I'll see what I can do.

Vacations
I don't think it is appropriate to have 'vacation' features unless you include the peculiar holiday periods of every nation we represent on this site. Not everyone celebrates Christmas. And as holloweeen is a peculiar american thing, most people haven't heard of it. I think the solution is that if you know you are going to be away from the computer for an extended time, make sure that you can finish your games before you leave. Otherwise, the worst catastrophe is that you will lose the game on time out; not a big deal. I went away last christmas and simply made sure I had finished my games. Goldie went away to Spain for over a week and simply began games with long play time. Those games that weren't finished still had plenty of time when he came back. Stoney, I don't know what you are proposing with the holiday flag feature but I hope it won't mean that anytime someone wants to prolong a game the flag is hoisted.

The vacation flag will not prevent players from claiming timeouts or allow players to extend games. It will simply be a flag to notify your opponents that you are away and you will be able to add an explaination to your profile of where you've gone and when you expect to return.
This flag will not be checked be the automatic timeouts that will apply to tournament games.

I would welcome a vacation feature that would allow a player to book holiday/vacation that does prevent you from timing out in a game, how a player chooses to use it I think (as many things) may be open to abuse in some peoples eyes. I tend not to get too excited about how my opponent chooses to use up their holiday entitlement where it exists at other sites. If at a later stage in developemnt of this already very good site I would welcome such a feature.

I would like to see a vacation (hoilday) feature that would allow a player to book holiday that does prevent from timing out in a game, how a player chooses to use it may be seen to be abuse by some. I tend not to get too excited however regarding how my opponent chooses to use up their holiday where it exists. If at a later stage in developemnt of this already excellent site I would welcome such a feature.

I would welcome a vacation (hoilday) feature that would allow a player to book holiday that does prevent from timing out in a game, how a player chooses to use it may be seen as abuse in some cases. I tend not to get too excited regarding how my opponent chooses to use up their holiday where it exists. It would be an added bonus if such a feature should arrive at a later stage in developemnt of this already excellent site .

Just in case we will have a vacation features here, I suggest that the vacation will be 30days or more. That's only a suggestion.

Any progress being made in this department? It's almost been 4 years since the vacation flag was "in the pipeline" but I still don't see it anywhere :(

Over the last few years the whole website has been re-written. On the front end it's only cosmetic changes but the backend is completely different. All these changes were implement on the 2nd of this month. For the first time in 4 years I now am in a position to start adding new features to the website. A vacation flag is still at the top of the list of features to add. At this point I'm going through the process of deciding exactly how this feature will work. I will post details of this once finalised.
